Detailed description of Pelican Hill Golf Club, Ocean North Course

Pelican Hill Golf Club -The Ocean North Course, is a Resort, 18 hole golf course located in Newport Beach, California.

Pelican Hill Golf Club -The Ocean North Course first opened for play in 1993. The course was designed by Tom Fazio.

Deep ocean views to the horizon guide all 18 tee shots on the North Course. Open canyons and elevated plateaus with a palette of a hundred colors contrast the distinct green edges of the fairways and greens. One can feel complete isolation on this course - save for the sound of birds' wings and the salubrious perfume of unique flora. Like its stable-mate, The Ocean South Course, there are several holes on the cliff's edge, adding the Pacific Ocean to one's list of playing partners.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6,945 yards. From the foward tees the course plays to 4,951 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 17, a par-5 that plays to 558 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 16, a par-3 that plays to 158 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 7, a 450 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at The Ocean North Course at Pelican Hill Golf Club is # 11, the 369 yard par-4.

Beautiful layout, spectacular views, but the greens were so soft and bumpy. For the price they should be firm and smooth.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again

The North Course at Pelican Hill is much better than the South(Ocean) Course, if you like vistas from nearly every spot on the tees, greens, fairways. Absolutely beautiful - even breathtaking. Ahhhh, a tear just fell from my eye. Seriously, this resort has everything and then some ... and the location is so unique that it's no wonder that Donald Bren calls this place his "baby." The resort is exquisite, with fine dining as well as places to sit on the lenai and watch the sunset with a cocktail while watching two enormous TVs in the Pelican Grill. There is often live music in the Grill that is well worth it as well. Bartenders rock: Wes and Gabe, especially! Oh, and we REALLY miss Caitlyn Bryant who took her "show" up to Los Angeles in pursuit of managing a high end sushi restaurant. She, my friend, was the finest host around! And Morgan, buddy, we'll miss you! Amanda, missing you too! Oh well, let's tee off!!!

This is by far my favorite course in Orange County, but it is terribly expensive, so I play here only once or twice a year, even though it is 6 miles from my home. The Player's Club for $625/year and reduces green fees is not worth it.

Played on an SCGA casual golf day, got better price than usual, and would play it again, or the South course, in a minute. Fairways are generous, so no excuse for getting in the rough, which is the toughest I've encountered, maybe ever. Everything in top shape. Good experience.

Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level

Best part of the course is the awesome views. The staff is top notch and takes good care of you. Although I would recommend this course it's not an every weekend type of course unless you have a lot of disposal cash on hand.
